2026 BREW

BREW participants sharpen their storytelling skills for sharing their research with others.

The 2026 Breakthrough Research and Education Workshop (BREW) was held on September 11.

The BREW serves multiple purposes and is an important annual activity for the Center. The workshop is an opportunity for all of the participants across the Center to:

  1. Share their current research with each other
  2. Meet face to face with people from other research groups
  3. Review and discuss the expectations and priorities of the Center for students and postdocs and for faculty
  4. Develop science communication skills

Representatives from the MRSEC IRG 1 and IRG 2 presented their work throughout the morning session.

  • Haotian Jiang

Awardees received assorted gifts as well as a traveling award of a pink flamingo statue, which will be passed to awardees next year.

Over the lunch hour, students and postdocs participated in a hands-on workshop on resume writing and individual development plans (IDPs) led by Wendy Crone.

The afternoon was dedicated to an interdisciplinary education and outreach workshop on science communication.

The full-day event was attended by 48 faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and staff.
