The MRSEC is managed by an executive committee consisting of Profs. J.J. dePablo (director), M. G. Lagally (IRG 1), R. Blick (IRG 1), R. Hamers (IRG 2), T. Kuech (IRG 2), N. Abbott (IRG 3), P. Bertics (IRG 3), and W. Crone (education and outreach). The research is carried out by interdisciplinary research groups (IRGs) on a rolling horizon basis and smaller seed groups on a limited-term (2 - 3 year) basis.

IRG 1 focuses on the science and technology of semiconductor nanomembranes so thin that the thinness determines the structure and topography, and creates distinct electronic, mechanical, chemical and optical properties.

IRG 2 works toward developing the ability to design, fabricate, and characterize interfaces between inorganic materials and organic molecular structures in such a way as to have complete control over their structural and electronic properties.

IRG 3 focuses on the design, synthesis, and processing of three-dimensional substrates with controlled topography on the 1 - 100nm scale and their use as interfaces to biology.

Completed Projects

Interdisciplinary Education Group efforts impact the wider scientific community and the public.

Research Facilities supported by the MRSEC are available for use by the national materials science community.
